The Nasher Museum of Art

Drawing on the resources of a leading research university, the Nasher Museum serves as a laboratory for interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and embracing the arts.

The museum was designed with the needs of faculty and students in mind:

  • Classes are taught in the lecture hall and University Classroom
  • Art not on display in the exhibition pavilions can be seen in our Study Storage Center
  • Rotating installations in the Education Gallery supplement course materials

Class visits may take place in the exhibition pavilions, study storage, and/or include time in a museum classroom for extended discussion. Faculty members work together with the academic program coordinator to create tours, lesson plans, assignments, and installations that complement their courses. Students are encouraged to select artwork from the collection as subjects for research.

Please explore the links at the left for more information and ideas of ways to integrate the museum into your teaching practice. To discuss further possibilities for your classes or research, contact Marianne Wardle, Andrew W. Mellon Coordinator of Academic Programs, at marianne.wardle@duke.edu or 919-684-5203.
